I finally got down to some sewing today. I finished up my work bag and made myself a handy pencil case too. The bag pattern is Birdie Sling by Amy Butler with a longer handle. The only modification I made to the pattern was I didn't make the inside pockets.
The bag (Vintage Modern fabric and reversible I might add):
The pencil case (Vintage Modern fabric too):
The inside - look how wide it opens. |
the outside |
I used this tutorial for the pencil case, with some modifications. I cut my fabric to 9.5" long x 6" w and used 1/4" seam allowances. When I got to the step where you fold the corners, I went across only 2". My finished case size is 4.5"h x 2"d x 6.5"w - the perfect size for some pens and a calculator. The case also stands up on its own and I like it. The outside of the pencil case was going to be the handles of the bag but it was too much in my opinion and I like the all-over flower look.
The bag is really bright - it does not scream professional but it will make me happy to look at it every day.
My all-purpose foot is broken - there is something wrong with a spring - it still works but doesn't go over bumps too well. I won't get to a sewing store til Friday of next week - I'm sure I can manage though.
